On the 31st of March 2010 Insaf Humanitarian Relief Malaysia will turn one, and while we are still in the 'infancy stage' of our growth, this first birthday is still an important milestone for us all.
In the past year our organization has been actively involved in Padang Sumatra (Indonesia), where in the aftermath of the earthquake we set up, for two weeks, an acute emergency clinic, followed by a program of psychosocial wellness. All together 7 missions were completed in Padang and all our volunteers gained knowledge, compassion and an overwhelming amount of strength from the experience.
The floods on the East Coast of Malaysia also saw our involvement, with several doctors with 4 wheels drive vehicles leaving Kuala Lumpur with medicines and supplies for the inhabitants of the worst hit areas in Kelantan.
As I have always stated our organization is and will not only fulfill its duty in emergency situations but plans to help organize mobile clinics for the 'core' poor in rural communities around Malaysia and some of our mobile units are already up and running!
Last but not least I would like to mention our involvement in the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide in December 2009. In fact although Insaf HR Malaysia was not officially registered when the tragedy occurred, our doctors and logisticians were rearing to go!. Thanks to their hard work and dedication we were able to make a difference and at the end of the day what matters is to be able to make 'a difference' to the lives of people afflicted by all kinds of calamities and disasters.
In the years ahead we will strive to improve our organization by developing and expending our clean water/sanitation (watsan), shelter and food programs, both in Malaysia and abroad...In the meantime I can only thank all the volunteers for their hard work and hope that their commitment will remain strong and unfailing.
